Breast Reduction
Breast
reduction has two main goals. First is to reduce
or eliminate symptoms such as back, neck, and shoulder pain. Grooving
of the shoulder, rashes and exercise intolerance is also corrected. The
second goal of breast reduction is to reduce the size of the
breast. This is done in a way to improve the shape, symmetry
and overall appearance of the breast. The final size of
the breast should be discussed prior to surgery and should be
proportional the patients body shape and size
The
procedure may be performed as an outpatient or overnight
stay. The discomfort is minimal. Patients frequently
report feeling better the day after surgery. The shape
of the breast will change over several weeks as it settles. The
incisions will lighten for up to 2 years.
