This
procedure is very common especially with women who have had children
or had a significant weight loss. There are several
techniques for performing mastopexy. Which one is chosen
is dependant on the degree of ptosis (droopiness) of the
breast, the location of the nipple and areola, the quality
of the skin of the breast, and the volume of the breast. The
experience of the surgeon is also very important.
Mastopexy
is frequently done along with augmentation. All though
combining the two operations increases the difficulty
of the operation, most experienced plastic surgeons are
trained and capable of performing the operation successfully. The
possibility of needing a mastopexy should be discussed
prior to surgery.
Mastopexy
is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Discomfort
is minimal. Normal activities are resumed within a few days. The
incisions will continue to lighten for up to 2 years.
