Breast
augmentation is one of the most common procedures performed by
plastic surgeons today. The goal of surgery is no
only to make the breast bigger, but it is also an opportunity
to improve the shape, symmetry, and overall appearance of the
breast. Ideally the enhancement should be proportional
to the patients overall body and as natural in both appearance
and feeling as possible.
The
procedure is usually done with anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Discomfort
is minimal and analgesics are usually only needed for the first
24 hours. Normal day to day activities within 3-5 days,
most non physical jobs by 5 days. Heavy exercise may be
resumed within 4 weeks. The appearance of the breast
is initially full and swollen. As the swelling resides
the breast begins to feel and appear softer and more natural.
When
having breast augmentation , there are numerous options with
respect to the size, shape, position of the implant as
well as location of the incision. Always obtain as much information
as you can and make sure your surgeon has the training to be
able to help make the right decision for you. There is
no one operation or implant that is right for everybody because
every patient is different.
