Otoplasty
is a procedure that helps correct protruding ears. It is
most commonly performed for children but it can also
be performed on adults. The procedure is performed
on an outpatient basis. With children general anesthesia
is used, where with older children or adults, local anesthesia
with sedation is satisfactory. The incision is
well hidden in the crease behind the ear. Discomfort is minimal. Patients
will wear a protective garment for up to 6 weeks at least when
sleeping to protect the repair.
